FINE AND PERFORMANCE ART

HUMAN DISASTER

In this multimedia piece, I create a portrait of my conscious self. Being involved in communities of performance, I wanted to take the ideals into a fine art space. Represented as a trinity, each of the three pieces works in conjunction with the larger series.

Holy Ghost

The installation “Holy Ghost” represents The Heart. It consists of several white t-shirts with indie rock and pop song lyrics inspired by the idea of the artist as a curator of both popular and online culture.

0300 Hours

My performance piece “0300 Hours” refers to the idea of the “witching hour” as a time of forced introspection. Using guitar loops, beats, synthesized vocals, and spoken word, I performed the 9-minute piece during the opening day of the Senior Exhibition. Combined with projected visuals that make reference to nature and mental illness.

does it really tho?

The zine series “Does It Really, Tho?” fixates on the idea of coping with living. Each zine combines photography with collage, and writing from my journals. Consisting of three zines designed in a non-linear format, they create a larger narrative that brings the elements of the project into a format the viewer can take home.

WHO’S GONNA WATCH YOU DIE?

As an earlier precursor to my senior thesis work, “who’s gonna watch you die” combined embroidery, collage, and abstract musical composition to give a sense of the word “dissonance.” Inspired by the no wave art movement, I took notes from major icons of the era and fixated them into this work.

INSTALLATION PIECES

Centering around this idea, I created three pieces. In the gallery space, I took the canvas pieces and arranged them into a constellation, stitched together in slender strands of thread to create a narrative. The embroidery hoop pieces made reference to indie rock songs over dyed fabric to blur the line between fine art and craft as well as, distinctions between gendered mediums. A series of three abstract musical compositions entitled “Exorcism in G Minor” took guitar sounds and lo-fi production to evoke the range of the electric guitar to experimental lengths.
